The language of gesture is integral to the history of
painting, even when the image is not an image of letters
or words. In oscuro, Mira Schor plays out the legacy of the
painterly aesthetic, plying her brush in layer after layer of
richly sculpted pigment, to create a sruface which
embodies the properties of chiaroscuo as well as
spelling its name.
