The language of gesture is integral to the history of painting, even when the image is not an image of letters or words. In oscuro, Mira Schor plays out the legacy of the painterly aesthetic, plying her brush in layer after layer of richly sculpted pigment, to create a sruface which embodies the properties of chiaroscuo as well as spelling its name.
