Martha Carothers blurs the line between design and fine
art through her formal approach to treatment of text.
Captial Letters extracts texts from the writings of Beatrice
Warde and Bradbury Thompson, both significant figures in
the history of 20th-century graphic design. "While this new
technology is exciting, I have found it to be not totally
satisfying. I need to experience the surface/tactile quality
that the five hundred year technology of letterpress
printing provides," says Carothers.
