Books are highly complex,
capable of carrying dense amounts of information in a compact format.
The specific features of a book include its capacity to create juxtapositions of text and image and to take advantage of the fixed order of sequenced pages. In recent decades, artists have found increasingly creative ways to engage with books as cultural icons. An awareness of the ways the idea of the book creates expectations underlies manhy of the works in this exhibition - each of which attempts to challenge our habits of reading and seeing.
